Origin story: 

In the 1900s in a bathtub on Berkshire Ave, sofa king dope was brought into this world.  Please note: No dolphins were present and assisting in the birth, partially because his parents didn’t want to break the dolphin and whale communication laws.  Also, because they are way too big to participate in a small bathtub & that would be ridiculous.  Glad we could clear that up for you. 

sofa king dope is the founder of all caps name records & meteoric rise records, and there’s another project in the works: diplomatic beats, although that’s too fresh and above your security clearance – stay tuned for updates.

The music:

At the turn of the century, sofa king dope was ready to hit the scene and saw a flyer at the local record shop about an upcoming DJ battle hosted by Shorty’s, owned by legendary DJ (Charles) Feelgood.  The battle bracket of 32 DJs featured a lot of great local talent, and after 6 rounds undefeated he took the crown from the 2-year reigning champion.  This earned him a weekly and monthly residency at Shorty’s.  Performing then under the name Samson Stout.  Later he along with Brad Reason became the first residents at the new DJ venue XS in Baltimore, serving up gourmet beats to compliment the infusion nightclub / sushi spot in Mount Vernon. 

Around that time, sofa king dope was introduced to the band members of the groundbreaking live electronica band Astralyte through a close mutual friend and soon began doing shows with them as an opening act and during intermissions for shows up and down the east coast on tour from NYC to DC, including the bands large yet intimate record release party on their farm in Chestertown on the eastern shore.  Astralyte was a trail blazing band and versatile, playing live everything EDM from house to breaks to drum n bass & experimental dance music and hopefully we’ll see them back with a new album in the future.   Back to that era where skd started in DC and NYC as a rave promoter, now he was back as a DJ and performer. 

The raves, music and club culture of the late 1900s is what grabbed him (you know, tha plur), regularly going to Buzz and The Edge, Fever, Twilo, Sound Factory, The Tunnel, Space, Whistle 2 & 3, Boo 2, and later throwing parties in New York at Club Exit, Liquids, the legendary Limelight, and equally legendary underground Shipwrecked parties on an old rusty cargo ship berthed on the docks on the Hudson.  Back in the day when parties didn’t have a website or event calendar, but instead there existed more rudimentary means like chat rooms, dialup bulletin boards, word of mouth.  There was very little online, but there was http://hyperreal.org (edit: wow it’s still online as a time capsule of the late 1900s rave culture). 

sofa king dope is a throwback from the earlier days of the scene yet at the same time is constantly looking forward. 

skd is:  a futurist, a humorist, an optimist, a realist, non-resident, non-conformist, and actually is quite modest despite the name, the creative force behind all caps name records, meteoric rise records, and diplomatic beats.  The latter’s mission is to elevate future talent with studio production opportunities and education on music & the business side, so their minds are ready when the time comes. He is also a diplomat & chief ambassador of a micro-nation that is at peace with all nations & supports freedom in all forms, both seen and unseen, within and without. With his dope beats often there is a nostalgic flavor that brings you back to those times and memories. It’s amazing how the mind can recall clearly something long forgotten with the right resonance. 

Earlier influences of classic rock, punk ska, reggae, pop & hip-hop, the turntablists like the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Z-Trip, Krafty Kuts, A.Skillz and producers to name a few like Format: B, Walker & Royce, Stimming and The Crystal Method. 

Although we understand that he is not of this world, king dope is in-fact 100% human, and boldly rejects the elite’s efforts to transform the genetics of the population; the otherwise dubbed transhuman agenda.  A pure heart that’s on a mission to find common ground, help others where possible, seeking truth in all things, and delivering that cool breeze feeling dope beat to your ear sockets.   You are truly witnessing a meteoric rise, so sit back and crank up that sub bass kicker competition set of 12s and strap in.  8 on the Richter scale yo.  Out.
